Over the Shoulder Shot Project
Before my group and I shot this, we had to figure out how we were going to film these shots without wasting any time and just going back and forth between shots. We realized that the best thing to do was to was to film one person talking all at once and have them pause for a few seconds so we can cut it and put the clip of the other person there.
I do believe that we followed the rule of thirds to an extent. I feel that we could have done a better job because Cesar was to the left, but it could have been more obvious.
The impressions that the over the shoulder shots give to a character are surprising. Depending on the situation, it might make a person look smaller or bigger than they are, so that gives you an idea of the conflicts that are going on.
I believe that the dialogue seemed pretty realistic. I like the cuts we made because I felt that they were very clean and on point. The only challenges we had when we were editing was where to cut the clips so that they flowed with the ones that followed.
Its hard for me to pin point the dominant mood or tone in our video. It seems suspenseful at times because you can tell that Cesar had something to tell to Isaiah, but he wouldn't just go out and say what he had to say.
With using over the shoulder shots, I found that it really does have an effect on the mood of the film. It can make a person look more dominating or even smaller or weaker than the other person.
One idea that got reinforced when doing the over the shoulder shot films is the amount of time that is needed between dialogue so we have enough time to make clean cuts so the dialogue can flow.
